Let Us Be Shallow Together
Faith Human Flourishing Communication Humor Literature Creativity
Come, let us be shallow together
And swing in the wild hammock
Of our Father's open hand
Leaning out from kissing kayaks
Lounging in an effervescent spring
Your words are a fiddle's ditty
Joyfully rising to the surface of things
Your tongue dances when you speak
I could watch the creature forever
Learn its delightful habits, noting
Every kernel retrieved from its burrow
Let us blow bubbles
And laugh in the wind
As God lovingly returns
Each prophetic word
And revolutionary act
To our redeemed hearts
Each gently bursting
On your cheek or mine
Except for one
(One prayer he keeps for Himself
He carefully plans its return)
Let us dance before Him
In our ridiculous pajamas
