Writing and the research process

Part of my problem with writing is the continual demand to create, to be novel and fresh. In my experience of the research process, I cannot force scientific and mathematical ideas to emerge. Perhaps, in the same way, I cannot force a story. But I can be prepared.

Another writing problem is simply getting organized. This feels similar to the research process. Rather than write again about things I have already written about at length, I should edit and make reasonable what I have already written.
