I have always felt that I was called to teach at a secular university because I would much rather be rejected by my academic colleagues for being a Christian, and be blessed for this, than be rejected by the fellowship of believers for being a scientist.
The church needs scientists and their perspective. Not just theologians, but natural philosophers with Christian conviction. The psychological issue for me is the fear of rejection by my spiritual family. Where do I truly belong? Where in the church can someone like me be used?
