Specifically Christian function

What is my specifically Christian function? I have thought that it might involve discernment, teaching faith, writing, and you know there is a fear factor whenever I think of big life-changing possibilities.
But I am encouraged by teaching, and I wonder what the way forward is for me as an academic, as a professor. Do I want my scholarship to transition into critical analysis of science? Is that how my writing comes back into things?
I do not want to be a dilettante, even if I aspire to be a polymath. More realistically, I want to be the thoughtful, broad-minded person that I am.
Trying to be more, or more important, than I really am will work against my calling. I need margins. I know I do not have to be just one thing, but some focus would be helpful. I need to care about it, and I need to be well-enough positioned to take it on. I know that I am called to humility and service: salt and light and sheep among wolves.
